Over the years I have found there are two groups of people when it comes to black painted furniture.

Those who love it, and those who dislike it tremendously.

Which team are you a member of?

I am all about it. If you love it too, then I don’t need to do any further convincing.

Let’s just give each other a high five! Woo hoo #teamblackpaintedfurniture

If you are on the fence or really couldn’t imagine a beautiful chair, dresser, desk, or buffet painted black, then hold on, maybe I can change your mind.

If you still aren’t feeling the love for black painted furniture by the end of this post, it’s okay, we can still be friends.

I could write all sorts of flowery words about why you should love this dark and mysterious color, but I think you might best be convinced after you have seen these beautiful pieces done by a few of my talented furniture painting friends.

Black Painted Furniture Inspiration Pieces

Up first is this spindle leg table with a grain sack stenciled top. This is one of my favorite tables in all of the painted furniture land.

And how about this circa 1982 bar stool makeover.  Who doesn’t love that famous Pottery Barn style black finish?

This desk makeover is about more than just a fresh coat of paint, it’s also a brilliant tutorial on how to save a leather top.

Black paint + a drop leaf table = Dreamy

This piece is the equivalent of a painted furniture mic drop!

This buffet wears black quite well don’t you think?

This media console proves the Balayage technique is not just for hair.

A paper shopping bag was used to add a bit of vintage charm to this little accent table.

And here’s how I created a vintage finish for this Windsor style chair.

If only I had 3 more just like it.

Black painted furniture instantly adds a touch of elegance and depth to any style decor, from traditional to farmhouse.

As you were swooning over all these lovely makeovers did you happen to notice how the black finish looked different yet amazing on every style of furniture?

It can look sleek and modern or authentically vintage.

Now it’s your turn, do you own any black painted furniture?

Thank you so much for including my cupboard. I do like the odd bit of black furniture in my home but still can’t resist adding a splash of colour to it.

Lisa they are all so gorgeous there is no way I could pick just one. And of course that answers the question of if I like black furniture or not.

What a fabulous collection of black painted furniture! Black furniture is definitely one of my favs and this fabulous post has inspired me to get painting a piece once we have moved! Thank you so much for including my paper bag table!!

I am a huge lover of black painted furniture. Our home is all Grays Blues blacks and whites, and every room has a piece, or two, of black painted furniture. Yes I need to dust it more often, but I really love how it anchors the design and becomes a statement piece. I love all of the above, each one is so unique and different.

Hi Nikki, if there is one drawback to pieces painted black, you just mentioned it. The dusting! It does require more regular wiping down than other pieces. My formal dining room table has the Kona stain color which is almost black, and I notice it needs dusting more frequently.

I also love black painted furniture, it is classic and adds depth to your room. I have a Habersham Plantation dining table with refinished natural top and GF painted, distressed apron and legs. I used Pottery Barn black chairs and two upholstered chairs at the ends of the table. It makes a comfy, relaxing table set. I have a parlor table that will soon have black legs and a stenciled top. Thanks for the inspiration.

When I was in college, I studied design and heard that quote. I think of it often. While I am not into rules or fads, I do believe that this one is spot on. Black adds a pop, some elegance (even if the piece is rustic and chippy) and a bit of punctuation to a room. I love everything you featured…so many talented ladies out there!

Most of the furniture in my house is either black or white so I am already a huge fan. I love the drama of Pillar Box Blue’s cabinet with the fabulous lime green on the inside. I may have to steal that idea!!!

Thank you so much, Laura! I’m sorry it didn’t work out for me to meet up with you all yesterday. Hopefully, we will have the chance again soon.
